Privacy policy
Last updated October 9, 2026Laugh Lounge Comedy Club (“Laugh Lounge”, “we”) runs the comedy club at 61 York St, Ottawa, Ontario, and this website. We collect as little personal information as we can get away with, and this page explains what we do collect, why, and what you can do about it. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect, and why
- Contact form. When you message us through the contact page we collect your name, email, the topic you pick and your message, so we can reply. The form also notes, in a few words, how you arrived at the site (for example “Google Ads” or “Instagram”; the same label the ticket counter uses, described below). The form is handled by Netlify Forms and delivered to the club by email.
- Newsletter. If you sign up on this site, or tick the “send me news” box when you buy tickets from our box office, we keep your email address (and your name, if you gave it) to send you news about upcoming shows. The list is held for us by Brevo. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you.
- Group and Christmas party requests. When you fill in the group booking or Christmas party form we collect your name, email, phone number, company or group name if you give one, group size, preferred date, occasion, and anything you type in the notes. We use it for one thing: getting back to you about your booking. The form also notes, in a few words, how you arrived at the site (for example “Google Ads” or “Instagram”), so the club can tell which ads and posts bring in bookings; it’s the same label the ticket counter uses, described below, and nothing else about your visit is attached. Submissions are received and stored for us by Netlify (our website host) and delivered to the club by email.
- Tickets. We don’t run our own checkout. When you buy a ticket you’re buying from a ticketing partner (typically Comedy Bar, Ticket Tailor, Eventbrite, or the promoter’s own ticketing) and your payment and contact details are collected under their privacy policy, not ours. Some Ticket Tailor checkouts open in a window on top of this site; that window is still Ticket Tailor’s, and we never see your card details. We receive what we need to run the show (names on the door, headcounts) and nothing about your payment card.
- Email and social messages. If you message us on Instagram or Facebook, or email us, we keep the conversation so we can reply and remember what we agreed.
- Basic technical logs. Like every website, our host records standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to keep the site running and secure. We don’t use these to identify you.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell, rent, or trade your information. Ever.
- We don’t sell audience data, and the measurement tools that set cookies (Google Analytics, which also reports ad results to Google Ads, and the Meta pixel, below) are easy to switch off.
- We don’t send marketing email unless you’ve specifically signed up for it.
Cookies and measurement
Ticket clicks (no cookies, no choice needed). When you click a “Tickets” link we record three things: which show, which day, and roughly where you arrived from (for example a Facebook ad, a Google search, or straight to the site). That’s the whole record. No cookie is set and nothing is kept that could point back to you. So that a click on your second or third page still counts where you arrived from, the site remembers that one word (for example “instagram”) in this browser tab only, and your browser wipes it when you close the tab; if you’ve opted out below, it isn’t kept at all. The counter can tell the club “forty people clicked tickets for Friday’s show”, and can never tell it who they were. It runs for everyone, because there is nothing personal in it to consent to.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics (Google LLC) to see how people find the site and which pages and shows they look at, so we know what’s working. It sets cookies (_ga and _ga_…) and sends Google the pages you view, the ticket links you click, whether you sent a booking form or signed up for the newsletter (never what you typed), roughly where you are (city level), how you arrived (for example a search, an ad or a link), and technical details like your browser, device and IP address. Google trims IP addresses before storing them, and we have switched off Google’s advertising features and Google signals, so this data is used for measurement only and is not tied to your Google account for ads. We only ever see totals. Google handles it under its own privacy policy. You can opt out any time: change your cookie choice and tap Opt out, which switches off Google Analytics and the Meta pixel together and removes their cookies. Google also offers a browser add-on that blocks Google Analytics everywhere.
Google Ads. We advertise on Google Search. When you click one of our ads, Google adds a click reference to the link (for example gclid, plus tags like utm_source=gads so our ticket-click count can tell ads apart from normal searches). If Google Analytics is on, it tells our Google Ads account which ad clicks went on to a ticket link, so we can stop paying for ads that don’t work. We see totals only, never who you are. We don’t use Google remarketing or audience lists, and advertising cookies stay switched off. You can opt out any time: change your cookie choice and tap Opt out, which turns this off along with Google Analytics and the Meta pixel. You can also manage ads in your Google My Ad Center.
Meta pixel. We advertise on Facebook and Instagram, and the Meta pixel tells Meta which of our ads bring people to the site (and whether they then clicked for tickets, sent a booking form or joined the newsletter, never what they typed), so we can show ads to people likely to enjoy a show and stop paying for ones that don’t work. When you visit, Meta (Meta Platforms, Inc.) sets a cookie (_fbp) and receives the pages you view here, the shows you click tickets for, and technical details like your IP address and browser. Meta may link that to your Facebook or Instagram account and uses it under its own privacy policy. A short notice about this appears on your first visit. You can opt out any time: change your cookie choice and tap Opt out, and the pixel (and Google Analytics) stop loading and their cookies are removed. We remember that in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie). You can also adjust your ad settings in your Facebook or Instagram account.
No other tracking cookies. Apart from Google Analytics and the Meta pixel above, the public pages of this site set no cookies of their own. One short notice about both appears on your first visit, and one Opt out covers both.
Everything else. Fonts load from Google Fonts, and third-party content we embed (ticket checkouts, the Google Maps link) may set its own cookies when you use it, governed by those companies’ policies. Our staff-only pages use local storage to keep staff signed in; that never touches visitors.
Where your information lives
Our website is hosted by Netlify, our newsletter list is held by Brevo, Google (Analytics) and Meta (pixel) receive measurement data unless you opt out, and our ticketing partners run their own systems; some of these providers store data in the United States. By using the site you’re okay with your information being handled there under those providers’ safeguards.
How long we keep it
Booking requests are kept as long as we need them to run your event and for our own records afterward, then deleted. If you’d like yours removed sooner, ask.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also withdraw consent for anything you’ve previously agreed to. We’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not happy with how we handled it, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
