Privacy policy

Laugh Lounge Comedy Club ("Laugh Lounge", "we") runs the comedy club at 61 York St, Ottawa, Ontario, and this website. We collect as little personal information as we can get away with, and this page explains what we do collect, why, and what you can do about it. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect, and why
- Contact form. When you message us through the contact page we collect your name, email, the topic you pick and your message, so we can reply. The form is handled by Netlify Forms and delivered to the club by email.
- Newsletter. If you sign up on this site, or tick the "send me news" box when you buy tickets from our box office, we keep your email address (and your name, if you gave it) to send you news about upcoming shows. The list is held for us by Brevo. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you.
- Group and Christmas party requests. When you fill in the group booking or Christmas party form we collect your name, email, phone number, company or group name if you give one, group size, preferred date, occasion, and anything you type in the notes. We use it for one thing: getting back to you about your booking. Submissions are received and stored for us by Netlify (our website host) and delivered to the club by email.
- Tickets. We don't run our own checkout. When you buy a ticket you're buying from a ticketing partner — typically Comedy Bar, Ticket Tailor, Eventbrite, or the promoter's own ticketing — and your payment and contact details are collected under their privacy policy, not ours. Some Ticket Tailor checkouts open in a window on top of this site; that window is still Ticket Tailor's, and we never see your card details. We receive what we need to run the show (names on the door, headcounts) and nothing about your payment card.
- Email and social messages. If you message us on Instagram or Facebook, or email us, we keep the conversation so we can reply and remember what we agreed.
- Basic technical logs. Like every website, our host records standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to keep the site running and secure. We don't use these to identify you.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or trade your information. Ever.
- We don't run advertising trackers or sell audience data.
- We don't send marketing email unless you've specifically signed up for it.
Cookies and local storage
The public pages of this site don't set tracking cookies, and we don't run analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and third-party content we embed — ticket checkouts, and the Google Maps link — may set their own cookies when you use them, governed by those companies' policies. Our staff-only pages use your browser's local storage to keep staff logged in; that never touches visitors.
Where your information lives
Our website is hosted by Netlify, our newsletter list is held by Brevo, and our ticketing partners run their own systems; some of these providers store data in the United States. By using the site you're okay with your information being handled there under those providers' safeguards.
How long we keep it
Booking requests are kept as long as we need them to run your event and for our own records afterward, then deleted. If you'd like yours removed sooner, ask.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also withdraw consent for anything you've previously agreed to. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with how we handled it, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
